Как использовать фразовые глаголы с turn без путаницы

Turn on и turn off знакомы почти всем, но уже turn up может означать и «сделать громче», и «появиться», а turn down — «сделать тише» или «отклонить предложение». Добавим turn into, turn out, turn back, turn around и другие конструкции.

Turn it on или turn on it?

Когда turn on, turn off, turn up, turn down управляют устройством или уровнем чего-либо, они обычно разделяемые.

С местоимением — в середину

Turn it off.
Turn it up.
Не: turn off it / turn up it.

Turn on — включить

  • Turn on the light.
  • Can you turn the TV on?

Turn up — сделать сильнее или появиться

1. Увеличить громкость, отопление или мощность

2. Появиться, прийти

  • He turned up twenty minutes late.
  • Only ten people turned up.
  • She suddenly turned up at my office.

3. Найтись или обнаружиться

My missing keys finally turned up.

Здесь никакого объекта между turn и up нет.

Turn down — сделать меньше или отклонить

1. Уменьшить громкость / температуру
